Recently, I was photographing our Bali Surf and Yoga Retreat participants shredding the famous breaks of Uluwatu.
Ulu is a great place for a surf photographer as it offers perfect perches that look out to the waves.
Bali Surfing ~ A legendary experience
A fun loving and adventurous woman joined me and studied the breaks below.
We struck up a conversation and she told me it was OK to shoot her. I managed to get some photos of her as she bravely took on some of Bali’s best surf. The only problem is I failed to remember her name.

Uluwatu is one of Bali’s most consistent surf spots as it consists of several breaks that work on various tides and conditions. Uluwatu is no joke and I have seen grown men come out of the water crying, injured, with broken boards, broken bones, etc.
Duck-diving out to Racetracks can be daunting
It was not a very crowded day and there were plenty of excellent waves for all.
Uluwatu and many of Bali’s breaks are not for everyone. Many require an advanced to expert skill level. After paddling through the cave at Uluwatu surfers hit the first breaks starting with The Peak. You can see our friend paddling in the lower right corner out to Ulu’s other peaks.
After surfing The Peak and Racetracks for a while, she paddled out to some of the further breaks Uluwatu offers such as Outside Corner and Temples.

These pictures are phenomenal. I especially like the one of the surfer swimming away from the rocks. Although the swells are kind of big, the ocean looks so peaceful. This makes me want to learn to surf!
